
This foaming sugar scrub is a little more complex than a basic sugar and oil mixture, but I find that it holds up better, spreads easier so you need less at a time, and rinses cleaner than any of those more basic versions that I’ve tried making in the past. It leaves my skin not only exfoliated, but also nicely moisturized.
I use a scale to measure out the ingredients, so all amounts listed are in grams.

- Kitchen Scale
- Cocoa Butter (I use a food-safe version so that I can also use it in cooking)
- Refined Shea Butter
- Cica & Calendula Infused Apricot Oil (video short)
- BTMS (emulsifier)
- Cetyl Alcohol
- Decyl Glucoside (surfactant – this creates the foam)
- Optiphen Plus
- Vitamin E Oil
- Midnight Vanilla Fragrance Oil
Foaming Sugar Scrub
Ingredients
- 20g cocoa butter
- 20g refined shea butter
- 40g cica & calendula infused apricot oil
- 20g BTMS
- 8g cetyl alcohol
- 40g decyl glucoside
- 4g optiphen plus (preservative)
- 4g vitamin E oil (antioxident)
- 2-4g fragrance or essential oils
- 240g sugar
Directions
- Combine cocoa butter, shea butter, apricot oil, BTMS, and cetyl alcohol in a glass measuring cup and set in a pot of water over medium heat until fully melted, stirring occasionally. Once melted, removed from heat and let cool 10-15 minutes.
- Add decyl glucoside and mix to combine.
- Add optiphen plus, vitamin E oil, and fragrance, and mix to combine.
- Stir in sugar.
- Transfer into a plastic storage container.
Use within 6 months. The scrub will be firmer at cooler temperatures.
